Colorado National Monument preserves a unique collection of towering sandstone canyons on the Southern rim of the Colorado River basin just South of Grand Junction.
The canyons were explored by John Otto, a nature enthusiast, and declared a national monument on May 24, 1911. (Please see the Grand Junction Calendar for Centenniel Events.
A primary attraction of the park is Rim Rock Drive which runs between Grand Junction and Fruita along the top of the Cayon rim.
