Grand Junction is a bustling agricultural community sitting on the confluence of the Gunnison and Grand Rivers. The Grand River was renamed the Colorado River in 1921.
The fertile valley surrounding Grand Junction is still known as the Grand Valley and is a producer of quality fruit and has recently developed a reputation as premium wine country.
Sitting at the foot of Colorado National Monument, Grand Junction, with a population of 58,444, is the county seat of Mesa County (population 118,000) and the de facto capital of Colorado's Western Slope.
